Short Shorts: Death At HomeDEATH AT HOME  Death’s black Oldsmobile Cutlass pulls into the driveway of a small, slate-blue house somewhere in Iowa. It’s late, but not too late, and lights are still on in the window. A skeletal hand finds the front doorknob in the dark.  “Hey, sweetie. I’m home,” says Death. In walks his wife, Ellen, a tall, slender woman of about 40, trailed by their son, Jack. Death lifts him up in a hug, and pecks his wife on the cheek the best he can with a total lack of lips. “Your dinner’s in the fridge. Meatloaf!”  Death smiles. Ellen makes a damn good meatloaf. Outnumbered, five hundred to one.   “Well, now what?” whispered Tybalt.   The rats parted to allow a palanquin of bone through to the center of the circle: the Rat-King himself.   “Puny humans. You will now see the wrath of the Rat-Conquerors firsthand!” he cackled.

Short Shorts: IxtlIXTL  A scream cuts through the silence around the pyramid, and High Priest Ixtl holds up one last heart in victory.  “Three hundred and sixty-five,” he grins, filed teeth glinting.  Ixtl lovingly places the heart, still beating, into the last jar in the row. He paces, muttering prayers while the lesser priests scramble to take the corpse’s other organs to experiment with. YAY

I'm at the beach and all is well. Enjoying the company of friends and family that I don't see nearly often enough. Enjoying the suntans, surfing, and sandcastles. Enjoying the long walks along the beach by day and boardwalk by night. Life is SO GOOD.

Although as of yesterday there has been a total lack of male company, I'm managing very well, mostly with a lot of AIM. My quasi-uncle is coming up on Friday, so that'll be fun. Mostly I'm just chill. Nothing huge going on, and I'm fine with that. It's pretty much the one or two weeks out of the year where I don't have anything to worry about. I mean, when I'm back home I have my job, so that's fine, but it's a job, meaning a responsibility, so I'm enjoying the hell out of this vacation!

Oh, and I'm taking a tap class! YAY!
